Before The Big Bang Theory became one of television’s most successful sitcoms, the initial pilot featured a drastically different version of the show—and a different woman playing Penny. In the unaired 2006 pilot, Amanda Walsh played Katie, a street-smart and strong lady who befriends the awkward physicists Leonard and Sheldon.
However, when test audiences saw that version, the reception was not what the producers had hoped for.
